Great fun! Portable, durable, and challenging August 28, 2010 N. Wei (Los Angeles, CA) This V-Cube is fantastic and offers loads of fun. It's portable, so I can travel with it on long rides on the plane and train, and it's quite durable. I like the colors and the design. Along with this cube, I bought the book The Cube: The Ultimate Guide to the World's Bestselling Puzzle - Secrets, Stories, Solutions which explains how to solve the various sized cubes. I bought three of these -- one for myself and two for my math professors. It's a great puzzle / toy for people of all ages. A really good gift idea for the holidays.
perfect August 27, 2010 UberCuber this is a very good cube, especially for the price. it is difficult to turn at first but it eases up after some solves. I would definitely recomend this product.
Pure Pleasure August 27, 2010 Rand Huso (Duvall, WA USA) This cube seems to be well made, and a bit heavier than the 5x5x5. There's some sort of internal bearing that clicks into place when the twist is done, and this prevents the other faces of the cube from being rotated. This makes it slightly slower turning than the smaller cubes, but with this many moving parts, it's probably necessary. In fact, it seems to be slightly more robust than the 7x7x7, which I also own. I highly recommend these puzzles.
The coolest of the non-3x3x3 rubik's cubes. August 21, 2010 My Uncle Stu (Boston) Once you get into the bigger cubes, 6 is the last of the really cool ones. In general, people are still more impressed by someone solving the 3x3 in 90 seconds than somebody slowly, carefully turning the 6x6 for about 25 minutes. But still, random people on the train sometimes take an interest. Sometimes people are confused enough to think it has more sides than a regular cube, and comfortable enough to disclose.
Not as hard as it looks. If you can do the regular 3x3 rubik's cube, you can do all of them. And if you can't do the regular 3x3 cube, you actually could if you very patiently watched a bunch of you tube videos on how to solve the rubik's cube. You should be able to do it in an evening honestly.
You really only need to learn how to solve the 3x3, and then each bigger cube has a couple little peculiar and strangely annoying details to get used to but you basically reduce it to a 3x3 and then just solve it like one. The even numbered ones are a little nicer, because you have to be a little more careful since the centers aren't fixed. And 6 is much more interesting than 4.
But you really can't crank them in more than one direction too quickly because a piece will just fire off at you and then you can wrestle it back in but one wrong move and it goes off like a grenade.
The 7x7 is goofy. It's not a cube. They had to round it fit the more peripheral pieces, but it's not a cube. Even though you are solving a cube, all the little pieces are not cubes.
Better than Rubik's! June 9, 2010 Scott A. Reuter (New Braunfels, TX, US) I currently own the Rubik's 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 and now the V-Cube 6x6. The V-Cube is vastly superior in overall quality to any of my Rubik's products. The V-Cube makes a slight clicking noise when all the slices are aligned so there is no question as to when you can make your next move. The V-Cube has smaller cubies than the Rubik's products but has a much more solid feel. When you pick up the V-Cube 6 you can really feel how solid the construction is. If you own the Rubik's 5x5 you will notice that the V-Cube 6 is almost exactly the same size. I have had a peice pop out once when I wasn't paying attention to the clicking and I turned it anyways. It was easy enough to pop back in. As long as you take your time and dont push the cube to fast it should hold up well.
If you are used to the Rubik's cube you will notice that the colors on the V-Cube are slightly different. Really 5 of the sides are the same colors, just different shades. The V-Cube has replaced the white side with black but the normal color scheme is still in tact (Green opposite blue, orange opposite red, yellow opposite black).
Overall this is a great cube and I higly recommend it. You should probably work your way up to the 6x6 since it uses many of the same moves from the 4x4 and 5x5. For the price you really can't beat the hours of entertainment you will get from this product!!
